When to go
Any time is a good time to visit Ecuador's Andean region. For those who prefer a drier climate, June to September is recommended, as well as November and December. The rest of the year is considered rainy season, with temperate weather and almost daily - but short lived - afternoon showers.
Banos is the central highlands’ premier destination for outdoor activities. This eclectic destination; filled with hotels, hostels and restaurants; is flanked by steep volcano edges that are home to farms and villages.
Tungurahua, also known as "The Black Giant," is the largest volcano in Ecuador yet the most easily climbed, since Baños is already set on its hillside. Home to superb hot springs and some of the world’s best mountain biking trails, Banos has a distinct charm that may catch the first-time visitor off-guard. This said, almost everyone leaves Banos with a smile on their face and an adventure-filled story to tell.
